Mail Order or Buy Locally?

Post by mixalive »

This thread was prompted by the Performance Bike Shop thread I just posted:
I have always been about mail order. I kinda just like to get packages in the mail. Goes all the way back to when I sent box tops off cereal boxes to get a decoder ring. So yea... I use Summit Racing, Nashbar, Markertek, Full Compass. Hell, I like sitting on the pot and reading catalogs.. I know... Too much information..
But I notice, no one here talks about Nashbar. I have bought a bunch of stuff from them over the years and capitalized on some great deals on tires and Manitou forks..
On the other hand, I want to patronize my local dealers, but I don't see a whole lot of appreciation for my business. I recently tried to get a local Tree company to reduce their price on a Sycamore tree install to earn my business and they just blew me off. But you know when they go to the car dealership, they will be wanting a deal.. OK, I am venting a little. But what do you guys think about Mail Order?

My buddy got a Mail Order Russian Bride...

All he got from us was

Until she cleaned out his accounts - A N D - stole his boxer puppy...

So he was

Two years later, he's still a little

And yes, we do still give him a hard time :P

-D-

p.s It worked out in the end, 6 months ago our buddy is a cop and had a friend over at INS pull her paperwork... it seems it was not in order... so they put her on a plane back to Mother Russia! We all had a collective  but before they deported her, our buddy (the cop) got Tyson (the boxer, no longer a pup) back and returned him back home. Everybody, except Katya, lived happily ever after! ;)

Well, I guess she was physically attractive when she was going out somewhere, not when she was loungin' round the house (which was most of the time), but her nasty attitude stripped away any attractive qualities! We all thought her online bio picture was gorgeous but she never looked like the photo ever once she arrived. Our friend equated it to buying something off the television... it looks amazing in the infomercial, but when it arrives at your door and you use it a few times...

Oh yeah, sorry Mixalive, buying out of a catalog... not my thing anymore. The shipping has gotten out of hand! Add to that the wait and lack of instant gratification, plus if something is wrong and you have to send it back... no thanks!
