The bike don't work with a broke chain..
It happened when I was deep in the woods today.
Stranded...
The good news is I made it down that big-ass hill, twice, without crashing..

Oh man, what a bust!

Dang Mix, you got some chain bustin' power in those sexy gams!!!

That happened to me once... only once... I never ride without my Topeak Alien tool and a universal masterlink. It's happened twice since that first "learn your lesson" and the Alien with the link got me home. Never walk out again!

If you can find the first generation Alien tool used, buy it! That's the one I have, it's been perfect every time, and I've had it for 12 or 15 years. The best tool ever, I had many, and the Alien spanks them all!

6 pack of KMC 8 speed (5, 6, 7 speed are the same width) U-link from BikeWorldUSA via Amazon for $2.40... great price!

Hey Mix,

Here is a link to a completed auction on Ebay for a used original Alien tool...

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Topeak-The-Alie ... 7675.l2557

$26.00 with 12 bids and $9.99 s/h

So, you can see the original has a loyal following. I can't speak to the quality of the newer stuff but the original is bombproof!

Lame sauce. Never broke a chain. I did have a derailleur get wrapped up in some spokes one time, rookie mistake throwing my bike in the back of a buddy's truck and didn't notice it till it was too late. I call it a "Stupid Tax."

How did it happen? Old chain? Just cranking up a hill? Not pressed correctly?

Do any of you guys use the master links for normal usage? I have always pressed them.
