Here's an interesting little nugget of information.

Post by Derek »

Apparently - when it gets around 8 degrees Fahrenheit, the lubricant in the rear hub of my Specialized 8 speed rear wheel on the A2MS becomes so non-viscous that it becomes a freewheel, pedaling in both directions. Got to walk the 10 miles home last night pushing my bike.

This morning, after spending the night in the house, it works just fine.

That's my diagnosis anyhow. Never experienced that before.

I have several 7-speed wheels/hubs, and just installed one. As my commuter, it's kind of an emergency and don't have time to tune it to the 8-speed shifter ...... I guess, Vinnie- I am going single speed after all! Kind of. <ick>

It is a start...just sip a bit of the Kool Aid and BAM before you know it you too will be thinking how nice and quiet it is!
Nah, you will have the derailleur on I bet so you will still have all the noise

Spray a little TriFlow in there and will solve that issue.. When I raced Emmick Karts in the early 90's, we use to drill the wheel bearing seals to accept the TriFlow nozzle and give it a little spray to lower the viscosity of the wheel bearing grease. It made the Kart roll easier and I can say, every little bit helps in competition..
This was a Bullet chassis with a Komet K55 100cc controlled engine.

I am with you on the Kart racing Derek. I had fun with the rail but wonder if that would have been better and they had racing around me though I think it was oval track and T did road course which had to be cooler than round and round ( yawn ) .

Taking a dig at my southern roots? I like NASCAR. Been to the Texas Motor Speedway multiple times. My ex-wife lived 4 miles away before I hijacked her to the middle of a cotton field. And she was a personal trainer. So no fat jokes.

By the way its snowing here.

No digs Derek, just like road over oval. As said in a different post, after the kids there is no way you could call my wife a toothpick...though no where near like the pictures D post.
So are we going to get some snow riding pictures like last year....I thought some of those were really.....COOL !!!!

Look for a local Kart track and check it out. Join the World Karting Association. They have this new CHONDA class to race these days using these Chinese Honda motors. It is fast and is an affordable class. I
The Italian motors we used in the 90's are way too cost prohibitive these days. You would spend as much for an Italian connecting rod as you would a replacement CHONDA engine. Chassis are about $1500-2000. Tires are expensive if you want to win. We would go through 2 sets in a weekend in the state series races. Rebuild the engines and crank bearings every 2 race weekends. This to avoid having to replace the $400 TKM connecting rod (1992 prices). Just saying.. 104 octane racing fuel. Transport. Spares. I hear you can race a CHONDA for a year without a rebuild. Fun Fun... Mountain Bike riding is still a cheaper sport..
And the wheel bearings were not a spec item for inspection back in those days.
